Colonial Oaks at First Colony is a large Type B assisted living facility in the Houston area. Whenever you are considering a large elder care community like Colonial Oaks you always want to ask a few probing questions during the walk through.
For instance with a total licensed capacity of 93 residents and 19 alzheimer’s resident beds there needs to be enough care workers on staff to offer round the clock assistance.
We are not saying Colonial Oaks at First Colony is breaking any rules but it is important to know that many elder care facilities will work under staffed to stay under budget.
If you find out their are only 2 care workers taking care of the elderly at the time you do the walk through for 93 residents than you can see how 1 person trying to care for 45 residents every hour could be a problem.
Make sure that when doing the walk through you meet all care workers on staff at the time you are there. Sometimes what a Houston assisted living facility will do is count their managers as a part of the care workers that are on staff to meet government guidelines.
They may tell you they have 6 people on staff as care workers but in reality you could find that really 4 of those are managers that sit in their office never providing assistance or help to the residents at the facility.
Again we are not saying that Colonial Oaks assisted living does this type of thing but that is why it s important ot check just to make sure they are offering quality Houston elder care. You do not want to pay for low quality low assisted elder care in a Type B elder care community. You should get what you pay for in an elder care community of this maginitude.
Once you have gone around and shaken all the care workers hands in person you will be able to count up how many care workers to residents they have on staff. This care worker to resident ratio is the most important aspect to if your loved one will get the quality Houston elder care you and them will be paying for.
